adding the sun

 2017

Based upon the geographical history of a specific landscape, evident within the site or determined by research, I find and play previously recorded audio of a natural element that at some point influenced how the landscape was shaped. By burning the light of the sun into the records, via magnifying glass, I am embedding the most dominant natural presence our planet has into the record in an attempt to listen to the sun. This action changes not only the way the record functions, but also the physical landscape and shape of the record mimicking the evolution of nature. Taking the rhythm of nature recordings and adding the intensity of the sun into the recordings structure reflects the more noise like elements of nature. This introduces disorder into the landscape that reflects the immense change each has undergone. I am interested in trying to accurately acknowledge audibly the landscapes his’s history as well as acknowledge the importance of the sun in the formation of nature itself. The work becomes a historical audio reference to the evolution of the landscape.
